Morning light unfolding over San José, capturing the peace of return and the promise of healing.

Back to Me: One Year Later

Exactly one year ago, I took a deep breath in Costa Rica and whispered to myself: “This is the beginning.”

I didn’t have all the answers. I didn’t even have the right questions. What I had was exhaustion, hope, and a soul that was finally ready to be heard.

That trip became the start of something sacred—a healing journey that unfolded through nature, culture, self-discovery, and quiet moments of truth.

This Year, I Returned

From May 20–27, 2025, I found myself back in Costa Rica. Only this time, it wasn’t for rest—it was for purpose.

I walked the same soil, breathed the same air, and yet…everything was different.

We reconnected with a woman we had met at the airport last year—someone whose story aligned with ours in the most divine way. After 10 months of staying in touch, we finally met again, in person, on Costa Rican ground. She introduced us to her mother’s home—one we are now planning to rent for a year.

We looked at houses. We stood in spaces that could hold the next chapter of this journey. The sunrise over San José wrapped around me like a promise. The night sky glowed like it had been waiting to say, welcome back.

The Journey in Between

This return brought back vivid memories of our June 2024 trip—what I now call my “scouting season.” It began with a week of immersion at Inter Cultura Spanish School in Heredia. We stayed with a Tico family, attended classes, explored the markets, and fully immersed ourselves in the rhythm of the culture.

We ziplined through Canopy San Luis. We stood under the powerful spray of La Fortuna Waterfall. We soaked in the healing waters of Eco Termales.

And then… the Caribbean. Jamaica Town, Limon. A five-star AirBnB that felt like a retreat, a reset. From there, we journeyed to Veragua Rainforest, to Puerto Viejo, to the bustling local market downtown—traveling by city bus for the experience.

Every step, every photo, every conversation was a thread. And now, one year later, I can finally see the full tapestry beginning to take shape.

Phase One: Complete

This post marks the close of the first phase of my healing journey. It’s not a grand conclusion, and it’s not without its detours. Between March and June of this year, I slipped out of rhythm—life got loud, and I got quiet. But even then, healing was still happening beneath the surface.

Now, I’m choosing to return. Not just to Costa Rica, but to myself.

This blog—The ROS Journal—is my promise to show up weekly. To reflect. To share. To keep unfolding.
